Marathon star Sebastian Sawe has received a major reward in his home county following his record-breaking performance in London, with Nandi Governor Stephen Sang presenting him with a modern three-bedroom house.
Sawe made headlines worldwide after delivering a historic run in London, finishing in 1:59:30 — a time being hailed as a landmark moment in marathon history. He beat the previous record of 2:00:35, set in 2023 by the late Kelvin Kiptum, by more than a minute.
The Nandi County Government said the house is part of the Chesumei Affordable Housing project under the Boma Yangu programme. The property is located in Kapsabet, opposite the county headquarters and near Kapsabet Boys High School.
Valued at approximately Sh4.8 million, the home features a modern design with high-quality finishes and is situated in a secure, well-serviced residential area.
In a statement, the county said the award recognizes Sawe’s outstanding achievement and reflects its commitment to promoting excellence while expanding access to quality housing and building inclusive, thriving communities.
Sawe’s victory has also drawn national recognition. President William Ruto awarded him Sh8 million — Sh5 million for breaking the world record and Sh3 million for winning the race under the revised athlete reward structure.
