The MMV Associate CLG has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Kenya’s Vision 2030 agenda through investment in livestock development, community empowerment, food security and sustainable economic growth.
The organisation’s Chairperson, James Mahuria, said the livestock sector remains a critical pillar of Kenya’s economy and should be strengthened through modern production systems, value addition and greater support to farmers and communities.
Speaking ahead of the Meat Expo, scheduled for August 26–28 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Mahuria said the event provides an important platform for stakeholders to showcase innovations and explore opportunities for transforming the livestock value chain.
“We are committed to supporting a vision that places communities, sustainable development, economic growth and food security at the centre of Kenya’s transformation,” Mahuria said.
He said MMV Associate CLG’s support for the Vision Beyond 2030 initiative reflects its commitment to building a stronger livestock sector capable of creating jobs, improving household incomes and contributing to national prosperity.
Mahuria noted that the livestock industry has enormous potential if farmers are supported to increase productivity while ensuring that livestock products meet quality and safety standards.
“A stronger livestock sector means a stronger economy and, ultimately, a stronger Kenya. We must empower our communities while investing in sustainable livestock production and value addition,” he said.
The Meat Expo, themed around quality meat, a stronger nation and a prosperous future, is expected to bring together players in the livestock and meat industry to showcase products, technologies and opportunities across the value chain.
Mahuria said MMV Associate CLG is particularly keen on initiatives that empower communities and promote sustainable development while preserving the heritage and livelihoods associated with livestock keeping.
“Our vision is not only about today. It is about honouring our past, empowering people in the present and building a prosperous future for generations to come,” he said.
He called on livestock farmers, industry players, investors and other stakeholders to use the expo to forge partnerships that can accelerate the growth and competitiveness of Kenya’s livestock sector.
Mahuria said stronger collaboration between government, farmers, private-sector players and community organisations would be key to unlocking the full potential of livestock as a driver of food security, employment and economic development.
