Siaya Governor James Orengo has welcomed former Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa to the Linda Mwananchi movement, a day after she announced her resignation from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Orengo made the remarks on Friday during a visit to Kakuyuni in Malindi, where he met the former Malindi MP.
“Welcome to the Movement, Aisha Jumwa (Shangazi Wa Taifa)!” Orengo posted on his social media platforms after the meeting, sharing a video of the two leaders in conversation.
Jumwa, in a separate post, simply wrote: “Welcome to Malindi, James Orengo.”
The meeting came less than 24 hours after Jumwa announced that she had quit UDA following what she described as deep reflection, prayer and consultations with her supporters.
“After deep reflection, heartfelt prayer and countless consultations with the people I serve, I have made one of the most difficult decisions of my political life. From today, Aisha Jumwa Karisa Katana is no longer a member of the United Democratic Alliance, UDA,” she said during a press briefing at her Kakuyuni home on Thursday.
Although Jumwa stopped short of declaring her next political destination, Orengo’s public welcome has fuelled speculation that she could be joining the Linda Mwananchi movement.
The meeting also underscores Orengo’s growing political activity at the Coast, where Linda Mwananchi has intensified its outreach as it seeks to broaden its national appeal ahead of the 2027 General Election.
