Rains to continue in Nairobi, parts of Rift Valley – forecast

Counties in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley and those in the Rift Valley are expected to continue receiving rains for the next 10 days.

The seven days weather forecast released by the Meteorological Department on Tuesday shows the rest of the country is likely to be generally dry over the period.

Counties in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley include Nairobi Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu and Tharaka-Nithi.

According to the prediction, these counties are expected to witness cloudy mornings with light rains over a few places, giving way to sunny intervals and occasional afternoon and night showers over a few places.

Maximum temperatures during the day are expected to rise to about 28oC in Laikipia while Nyahururu has been predicted to have chilly nights with minimum temperatures dropping to 06oC at night.

North-western Kenya counties of Turkana and Samburu are likely to have sunny days and partly cloudy nights.

“However, occasional morning rains, as well as afternoon and night showers, may occur over few places during the first half of the forecast period,” the forecast shows.

Counties in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley are expected to receive morning rains over a few places while afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over a few places occasionally spreading to several places.

They include Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Busia, Migori, Narok, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet and West-Pokot.
