Three people are in police custody as detectives investigate an alleged fraud scheme that is suspected to have cost a Sacco more than Sh22.4 million.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives from Imenti North uncovered what investigators describe as a sophisticated operation involving the alleged manipulation of the Sacco’s computerized financial systems.
Investigators believe the scheme relied heavily on technology, with the Sacco’s electronic platforms allegedly exploited to facilitate unauthorized transactions. Preliminary findings suggest that multiple accounts may have been used to receive and withdraw the funds under investigation.
The first breakthrough in the case came on June 4, 2026, when detectives arrested a suspect and secured custodial orders to allow for further investigations.
The probe gained momentum on June 10 after detectives conducted an operation that led to the arrest of three suspects believed to be connected to the alleged fraud.
During the operation, officers recovered several mobile phones and a company laptop, all of which have been seized for forensic analysis. Investigators are examining the devices to determine the full scope of the suspected scheme and identify all those involved.
The DCI said evidence gathered so far points to a coordinated operation involving multiple individuals. Detectives allege that the fraud was executed through the Sacco’s electronic systems, resulting in losses estimated at more than Sh22.4 million.
The three suspects remain in custody and are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.
The agency added that more arrests could follow as detectives pursue additional leads and work to identify other individuals who may have played a role in the alleged fraud.
The DCI reaffirmed its commitment to combating financial crime and ensuring that anyone found culpable is brought to justice through the legal process.
