Co-operative Bank of Kenya has received international recognition at the Global SME Finance Forum 2025, held this week in Johannesburg, for its outstanding commitment to innovation in Business Banking.
The annual forum, which brings together leading financial institutions, fintechs, and policymakers from around the world, celebrates excellence in serving small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)—a sector widely recognised as the backbone of economic growth and job creation.
Co-op Bank was awarded for its innovative solutions tailored to SME clients, including digital tools, flexible financing options, and advisory services that help businesses grow and navigate an increasingly complex economic landscape.
“We are honoured to be recognised on a global stage for our dedication to supporting SMEs,” said a statement from Co-op Bank. “This award affirms our continued investment in technology and client-centric services that meet the evolving needs of businesses in Kenya.”
The bank’s approach to business banking has included streamlining loan access for SMEs, launching sector-specific products, and enhancing its online and mobile banking platforms to improve customer experience.
The Global SME Finance Awards, organized by the SME Finance Forum (managed by the International Finance Corporation – IFC), aim to promote responsible and impactful financial services for small businesses across the globe. Winners are selected based on innovation, impact, and scalability of their SME-focused initiatives.
Co-op Bank’s recognition highlights Kenya’s growing influence in Africa’s financial innovation landscape and reinforces the importance of inclusive banking models that empower entrepreneurs and small business owners.
