Detectives in Murang’a county are investigating a suspected murder case after the body of a 28-year-old woman was discovered inside a tea plantation shed in Kigumo Subcounty.

According to police, the incident occurred on Friday at Kiriko Village. The deceased, identified as Sherleen Njeri Wangari, was a casual labourer who had gone to work at a tea plantation.

Police reports indicate that upon arriving at the plantation shed to collect a basket, workers noticed a blanket that appeared unusual and raised an alarm.

Fellow workers later discovered a man known to them inside the shed. He reportedly left shortly afterwards claiming he was going to buy cigarettes, leaving behind a large red blanket.

Further inspection revealed that the body of the woman was concealed inside the blanket and she was found unresponsive with injuries on the forehead.

The scene was visited by the police.

Investigators established that the deceased and the suspect were known to each other and believe the man may have been involved in the murder.

Blood-stained clothing and a cane stick believed to have been used in the attack were recovered from the scene.

The body was moved to Montezuma Funeral Home awaiting postmortem examination as police intensify the search for the suspect.

Elsewhere, police in Kiambu county are investigating a murder incident after the body of a 42-year-old man was discovered along a roadside near Muguga area in Kikuyu Sub-county.

According to police, the incident was reported on Friday after a passerby discovered the body lying near the Kefri forest area along the Kwa Mindo road.

Police said the witness, who was riding home from Nderi Shopping Centre at around 1:40 am, encountered a man lying by the roadside and stopped to check on him. He reportedly recognised the victim as someone he knew from a local car wash.

The victim, later identified as Richard Njenga Njomo, aged 42, is said to have provided a contact number for assistance, but attempts to reach it were unsuccessful.

The witness then sought help from another boda boda rider before reporting the matter to Nderi Police Post.

Investigators said the deceased had a deep cut wound on the right side of the head, suspected to have caused his death.

The body was moved to St. Teresa Mortuary, awaiting postmortem examination as investigations continue.

And police in Kilifi county arrested a 26-year-old man linked to the murder of a seven-year-old girl in Kilifi Township.

The suspect presented himself at Tauza Police Station in Gora Location, Taita Taveta county, on Friday at around 12:30 pm.

Police said the suspect had been adversely mentioned as the prime suspect in a murder incident involving a minor who was allegedly defiled and killed in Mweza Ngombe area within Kilifi Township.

The case had earlier been recorded on April 28.
