The National Police Service (NPS) has announced a comprehensive security and road safety strategy ahead of the Easter holiday.

The plan comes in response to heightened travel, social events, and tourism expected during the season.

The NPS warned that heavy rainfall has worsened road conditions in many areas. Poor visibility and flooding are likely to increase the risk of road accidents.

“These challenges are further exacerbated by the heavy rainfall affecting most parts of the country,” the statement noted.

To maintain law and order, police will increase their presence across key public areas. These include shopping malls, places of worship, markets, and transport hubs. Undercover officers and specialized units will also be deployed.

The Service said it is working closely with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA). The collaboration will ensure thorough road checks and strict enforcement of traffic laws.

“We urge all drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, boda boda riders, and passengers to comply with traffic rules and regulations,” the release stated.

The NPS also called on public service vehicle operators and boda boda associations to work with police. The goal is to promote discipline, improve customer service, and enhance passenger safety.

Members of the public are encouraged to stay alert during the holiday. Suspicious activity should be reported to the nearest police station or toll-free numbers: 999, 911, 112, or #FichuakwaDCI (0800 722 203).

“With your cooperation and the unwavering dedication of police officers, we can look forward to a secure and joyful holiday period,” the NPS said.

The statement was signed by Muchiri Nyaga, Director of Corporate Communication and Spokesperson for the National Police Service.
