IEBC gazettes Esther Okenyuri new UDA senator

The IEBC has filled the seat left vacant by former Senator Soipan Tuiya who was appointed as Environment Cabinet secretary.

In a Gazette notice dated November 1, the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati named Okenyuri Esther Anyieni as senator.

She is a member of President William Ruto’s UDA party and was part of the Kenya Kwanza presidential campaign team.

“Following the appointment of Soipan Tuya as a cabinet secretary, the commission in exercise of powers  conferred by Article 88 (4), 90 and 98 (1) (b) of the Constitution, Section 4 of IEBC Act, 2011, Section 37 of the Elections Act, 2011 and regulation 56 B of the Election (General) regulations, 2012, amends the Gazette notice published on September 7,” read the notice in part.

Okenyuri, the founder of women for Ruto which was involved in the Kenya Kwanza campaigns, was ranked position nine in the priority list of 16 submitted by UDA party for nomination.
