Kitutu Chache North ODM parliamentary Aspirant, Geoffrey Asanyo has called on area Lawmaker, Jimmy Angwenyi to apologize over a remark he made on Saturday against him or he seeks legal redress.
The Aspirant claimed that the Mp told Nyamarianyi SDA faithful that he went to schools to reclaim sand he had supplied them in 1996 after KANU barred him from vying for then Kitutu Chache parliamentary seat after area Mp, Dr Zachary Onyonka died.
He said he had supplied sand to more than sixty schools but then KANU Secretary General; late Joseph Kamotho prevailed upon him to shun contesting for the seat and allow Richard Onyonka to complete his father’s term but Angwenyi vied and won the seat through KANU in the by-election.
Aspirant alleged the words the Mp uttered were defamatory and he has since written to him though Bonuke advocates demanding an apology within 24 hours and reported the matter at Rioma police station.
“ I never returned to the schools to demand for the sand. The Mp has sensed defeat and that is why he is inciting members of the public against me,” Asanyo told the Press at his office in Kisii town, adding some church members had recorded statements at Rioma Police station.
The letter by Asanyo’s lawyer to Angwenyi seen by People Daily says in part “…When he lost his parliamentary bid, he took away some sand from schools. Do not vote for him”
Asanyo also claimed that some of the Mp’s supporters were tarnishing his image by claiming that he was mistreating small sub clans in the area, terming it malicious and unacceptable.
He alleged one of the Mp’s supporters was whisked away from Ragogo PAG church last week after he started abusing him, which prompted his supporters to confront him.
“ The pastor took a microphone phone from him when I confronted him over his abusive remarks” Asanyo told the Press as he appealed to his supporters to embrace peace as the matter was being handled by relevant officers.
