President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday afternoon landed in Kisumu County where he is set to inspect the Sh3 billion refurbished Kisumu port.

The President’s first stop over at the port was at the MV Uhuru which has ferried  over 17 million litres of diesel to Uganda.

More is expected once the port is fully operational.

The two-metre gauge railway from Nakuru to Kisumu is expected to be repaired soon as the region warms up to the opening of the port.

The President landed in Kisumu accompanied by three military choppers.

Last week Interior PS Karanja Kibicho said the Covid-19 outbreak had slowed down the preparations to launch the mega project.

Kibicho noted that as soon as the virus eases down, the President will announce a date for the official launch.
