The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has announced an intensified grassroots mobilisation drive aimed at positioning the party as a national, inclusive political movement ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking at State House, Nairobi, during a meeting with 12,353 UDA aspirants, party leaders said the strategy is designed to strengthen the party’s structures across the country while promoting unity, growth and shared prosperity.

The aspirants present included 149 candidates for governor, 279 for Senate, 323 women representative hopefuls, 1,372 parliamentary aspirants and 10,230 candidates for Member of County Assembly (MCA), underscoring the scale of UDA’s preparations for the next polls.

UDA reaffirmed its commitment to women’s inclusion in leadership, pledging to give women politicians a fair chance through free, fair, inclusive and democratic party nominations. Party officials said the approach is intended to deepen gender equity and expand opportunities for women at all levels of leadership.

The party also reiterated its focus on agenda-based governance, distancing itself from what it described as tribalism, division, hate and personality-driven politics. Leaders said UDA’s policy platform is anchored in long-term national interests rather than short-term political considerations.

On the economy, the party said it remains committed to its bottom-up economic model, noting that more than 80 per cent of its manifesto commitments have already been delivered. According to the party, these measures have contributed to economic stability and improved livelihoods.

As part of efforts to ease the cost of living, UDA announced plans to exempt more than 1.5 million workers earning KSh30,000 and below per month from income tax. An additional 500,000 workers earning up to KSh50,000 would benefit from a reduced tax rate of 25 per cent, down from 30 per cent.

Party leaders described the proposals as practical policies aimed at delivering dignity, opportunity and financial relief to Kenyans at the base of the economy, saying they reflect the core principles of the bottom-up approach.

With the 2027 General Election approaching, UDA said the engagement with aspirants marks a key step in consolidating party unity and aligning candidates with its policy agenda and governance philosophy.
