In a move aimed at strengthening county-level development and educational support, the Co-operative Bank of Kenya (Co-op Bank) has engaged with Kilifi County Government leaders in a strategic partnership to advance local projects and community empowerment.

The bank’s official social media account on X  highlighted a visit by Her Excellency Flora Mbetsa Chibile, the Deputy Governor of Kilifi County, who was hosted by Co-op Bank officials this week. The meeting, which took place in Kilifi, focused on strengthening cooperation between the financial institution and county authorities on key socio-economic programmes.

Officials say the collaboration is expected to accelerate initiatives in areas such as education, youth empowerment, and financial inclusion, with both parties exploring avenues to enhance access to banking services and economic opportunities for residents of the coastal county.

Co-operative Bank, one of Kenya’s leading financial institutions, has in recent years focused on expanding its community engagement and financial empowerment programmes, particularly in underserved regions. Its involvement in regional development aligns with broader corporate goals to support county-level growth and inclusion.

In addition to its financial services footprint, Co-op Bank is known for initiatives that extend beyond traditional lending and savings products — including support for small businesses, SACCO societies, and digital financial literacy campaigns across Kenya.

Deputy Governor Chibile said the county government welcomes the partnership and sees it as a catalyst for boosting economic activity and creating opportunities for Kilifi’s youth and entrepreneurs. Co-op Bank officials, for their part, reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with local authorities to deliver impactful programmes that address specific community needs.

Further details on joint projects or specific funding commitments are expected to be announced in the coming weeks as discussions between the bank and Kilifi County progress.
