Kenya Unveils Sweeping Legal Reforms to Boost Investment and Innovation

EIDU, a digital learning partner working with governments to provide cost-effective and scalable digital learning solutions in schools, is the main education partner for the inaugural Kakamega International Investment Conference (KAIICO), scheduled to take place from March 19 to March 22, 2024.

This was revealed at a pre-conference breakfast meeting hosted by H.E. Governor Fernandes Barasa in Nairobi on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. The event brought together key sponsors and partners to discuss investment opportunities and bankable projects in Kakamega County. EIDU was represented by a team led by its Head of Government Relations, Salome Mwaura, alongside Senior Project Lead Clara Ruiz and Government Relations Specialist Joyce Wesonga.

During the breakfast meeting, Governor Barasa delivered a keynote presentation highlighting the investment potential of Kakamega County and outlined plans for growth and development in the region.

Notably, Kakamega’s focus on education continued to stand out with a focus on enhancing equitable access to quality and relevant education, with a keen eye on digital solutions.

Ms. Mwaura expressed EIDU’s commitment to supporting Kakamega in achieving its educational objectives, stating, “EIDU, as a partner in education, specifically in digital learning solutions, is committed to supporting Kakamega achieve its leading education goals.”

EIDU seeks to produce the best learning outcomes globally and support all learners equally, regardless of whether they live in urban areas or rural settlements. It collaborates with governments to provide learners with access to digital learning, emphasizing effective and sustainable implementation strategies and learning impact. Currently operational in 11 counties, reaching 250,000 learners and 10,000 teachers, EIDU’s digital learning solution has demonstrated significant educational gains, with learners experiencing 0.8 years (9 months and 18 days) of additional learning for every year of digital learning.

EIDU’s solution provides CBC-aligned and KICD-approved digital content for both learners and teachers, delivered through digital learning devices. Personalization is a key feature, as the EIDU content adapts to each learner’s pace and individual learning needs. For successful delivery and continuity, teachers receive training, while county education officers are equipped with digital tools for quality assessment. This ensures that leaders have access to real-time data dashboards containing key education metrics. The EIDU program has a 98% approval rating among parents and 96% amongst teachers.

Meanwhile, EIDU has together with various development partners including, among others, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the German Embassy in Kenya, Save the Children, Google and Jacobs Foundation so far mobilized KES2bn funding in support of the digital learning program in Kenya.
