Kirinyaga Senator James Murango could soon be a relieved man after court heard that the DPP is seeking to withdraw forgery charges against him.

On Wednesday when the matter was coming up for pre-trial, the DPP applied to withdraw the charges.

Murango was not present in court. His lawyer said he was indisposed. An an earlier application to attend the court session virtually had been denied.

The case will now be mentioned on November 30, when the DPP will formally make the withdrawal application. Murango was directed to be physically present in court.

Murango was in May charged with forgery, uttering false documents, fraudulence in procurement proceedings and acquisition of public property in a corrupt manner.

He was charged alongside Lilian Kemunto. The two are directors of Ports and Harbours Support Services, which had bid to supply crane spare parts to Mombasa Port in 2020.

Court documents showed that on March 15 and 18, 2020, the duo forged documents and unreferenced the Local Agent Appointment letter, purporting to be issued by Manitowoc Crane Group-the sole manufacturer of Grove Crane spare parts.
