Deputy President William Ruto will continue his 2022 campaign forays and will camp in Kitui county  on Friday for a women and youth empowerment Programme.

The DP will be hosted by the former Nairobi Deputy Governor Jonathan Mueke, and the event will be attended by leaders from the region, including former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama.

This comes a day after Ruto hosted spiritual and professional leaders from various churches and mosques from Makueni county at his Karen residence in Nairobi.

On Monday, the DP attended a two-day South Eastern Bloc Economic Forum at the Oltukai Lodge in Amboseli, Kajiado County, that brought together the leadership of Makueni, Kitui, and Machakos Counties.

The forum was attended by Raphael Munavu, Prof Joseph Nzomoi, Peter Lewa, Kithiyo Matemo, Emmanuel Mutisya, Engineer Dennis Mwangangi, Engineer Pius Kathusya, Governor Josphat Nanok, Victor Munyaka, Nimrod Mbai, Katoo Ole Metito, among others.

The DP is touring the county where its governor Charity Ngilu has been opposing his 2022 bid.

Ngilu criticised the DP for abandoning the government’s agenda for his 2022 ambitions.

At one point, she asked the DP to resign from the government if he is not satisfied with its administration.

Earlier this month, a section of leaders from the Ukambani region threatened to abandon Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka if he backs ODM boss Raila Odinga for President in next year’s election.

Led by Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua, the legislators warned Kalonzo against any plans to support Raila, saying he would be a lonely man in such a journey.

“Should our party leader ever make the decision to support the Rt. Hon Raila Amolo Odinga for the presidency, we respectfully assure him of two very painful outcomes,” they said in a statement read by Wambua.

The DP was also on the receiving end from Kalonzo and Ngilu over his remarks on the ownership of the 200 acres, which originally belonged to the National Youth Service.

Ruto claimed that Kalonzo grabbed the land, forcing Wiper’s leader to defend the ownership of the land at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters.
