Police Officer Disarmed After Firing 30 Bullets in the Air at Staff Quarters

ODM Asserts Growing Popularity Ahead of 2027 Elections

MP Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi has brushed off a plan to recall him through the ongoing signature collection.

Wamumbi has termed the move a ploy by some particular individuals to silence him from speaking about issues facing coffee farmers in the Mt Kenya region.

According to the MP, the drive which commenced Wednesday was specifically aimed at stopping him from attending a meeting planned for Thursday in Karatina town.

“The hogwash going on in Karatina is to divert the attention and stop me from attending the coffee meeting,” he said.

He however insisted that he will attend the meeting and “I will name the thieves”.

The lawmaker at the same time used the opportunity to urge the coffee farmers from the region to resist any attempts to have them borrow loans to allegedly buy a coffee miller.

He said while the licence for the miller remains revoked, it will soon be reinstated and reopened.

“The money is supposed to be borrowed on behalf of farmers but the miller will be owned by thieves,” he claimed.

The signature collection drive seeks to raise 30 per cent of the total number of registered voters in the constituency.

This translates to 31, 000 of the 104, 000 registered voters in the constituency.

The process is spearheaded by Samuel Ngari who has alleged that the MP has failed to advance their interests.

He has also been accused of voting in support of the motion at the National Assembly to oust former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Ngari said he hopes to take advantage of the December holiday when most residents are back in the village to increase his numbers to support the case.
